Note and Note Again and Again Notice and Note Again and Again

One of the principal texts nosotros use to guide our reading instruction is the amazing Find and Note: Strategies for Shut Reading by Kylene Beers and Robert Probst.  This book provides u.s.a. with the foundation for having deeper reading conversations and a common linguistic communication as we develop our thoughts.  While the book has excellent text ideas to use as mentor texts, I thought it would be nice for my students  to utilise pic books on the very first 24-hour interval of a new strategy before we delve into the longer text excerpts.  I have therefore looked for picture books I could use with the different strategies and will publish posts equally I have them for the 6 dissimilar strategies since I cannot be the only one looking for ideas.

The showtime mail service was on Dissimilarity & Contradictions, then followed Aha Moments, Tough Questions, Words of the Wiser, and at present comes a tougher ane to find motion picture books for Again and Again.

NEW Additions:

Brick by Brick past Charles R. Smith Jr. and illustrated by Floyd Cooper tells the little known story of how slaves were office of the structure of The White Business firm.  Powerful read and powerful Once more and Once more moments.

Back of the Motorcoach written past Aaron Reynolds and illustrated past Floyd Cooper tells the story of Rosa Park'southward act of courage from the  perspective of a little male child on the jitney.  Powerful again and again when students notice the symbolism of the marble.

Amelia and Eleanor Get For a Ride written past Pam Munoz Ryan and illustrated past Brian Selznick has a few subtle Again and Again's and may therefore exist better suited for when students have had some exposure to the strategy.

I admit that The North Star past Peter H. Reynolds was the first one that came to listen for this strategy of noticing when something is repeated again and over again.  Why?  Considering the cat becomes a symbol for so many things in this volume and is something that my students often detect.

With the simple line "Winter is coming" this picture book aptly titledWinter is Coming by Tony Johnston and illustrated past Jim LaMarche is great for just starting out with the strategy since the line is easy to spot and will atomic number 82 to good discussions about how the book changes even though the line stays the same.

The Large Box by Toni Morrison and Slade Morrison illustrated past Giselle Potter has a lot of repetition making it an ideal candidate for again and over again.  Because the words do not seem to mean much until yous actually beginning to think about their significant.  What is the symbolic meaning of the large box?

Ane of the near beloved picture books in our 7th grade classroom isI Want My Lid Back past Jon Klassen which due to the chapeau and the repeated phrases of the behave and the rabbit are slap-up for inferring based on the over again and once again moments.

Another favorite isWolfie the Bunny by Ame Dyckman illustrated by Zachariah OHora when Dot the Rabbit keeps repeating that Wolfie will eat them all up.  This leads to some not bad discussion of why she would keep saying that and how we practise the same as people when nosotros gauge.

The again and again moment may be a little harder to discover in the archetypeWhere the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak but kids ever recognize it when they attain the terminal page and the supper is still hot.  Why does this affair and how does information technology link in to earlier events?

A Sweet Smell of Roses by Angela Johnson is a beautiful film book and the over again and again lies in the utilise of the color red also as the phrase "Sweet smell of roses…" throughout the book.

this beautiful new moving picture book,My Two Blankets past Irena Kobold and Freya Blackwood keeps eluding to a coating.  I love the metaphor that the blanket (southward) stand for.

Bluish on Blue by Dianne White and Beth Krommes has a fantastic once again and again in the way the color words are used.  While not equally obvious equally an again and again moment, I am looking forwards to seeing if students can find the pattern.

We are near to start our nonfiction focus for the yr so I am so glad I found some corking again and again moments inThe Male child Who Loved Math past Deborah Helligman with pictures by LeUyen Pham.  The way the numbers are colored throughout the pages volition definitely catch the eye of students.

Equally always, I turned to the awesome Observe and Note community on Facebook and asked them to share their favorites as well.  Here they are.

Frog on a Log? by Kes Grayness and Jim Field.
